Oral surgery classically includes the removal of teeth (including wisdom teeth), surgical exposure of impacted teeth, apicoectomy, removal of jaw cysts and benign jaw tumors, plastic correction of the gums and mucous membranes, and mucosal and bone biopsy as a diagnostic tissue sample. The procedures are performed under local anesthesia.
Dental surgery is strongly connected with implantology. Before an implant is placed, the entire oral cavity must often be sanitized. The maxillary sinus rehabilitation, the guided bone regeneration, prepares the patient for the further stages of the entire treatment (placement of the implant, prosthetic restoration).
